Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has warned that the 2027 general election is the last opportunity to unite Nigeria, noting that all hands must be on deck to change what he called the country’s “sad narrative”.
This comes as the member representing Awka-North and South Federal Constituency, Prof. Lilian Orogbu, raised fresh alarm over an alleged plot to use fake security operatives to manipulate the upcoming election, stating that any such attempt would be resisted.
Peter Obi, who spoke at an empowerment scheme convened by Orogbu in Awka, the Anambra State capital, lamented that Nigeria paints the picture of a meal spoiled by too much salt. He added that he has been traveling across the nation to seek the votes of Nigerians to guarantee national unity.
“Nigeria is like a meal spoiled by too much salt, and a lot has collapsed in this country”, Obi said: “Wherever you go, they tell you to be careful and not go there. When people get sick, they have no functional hospitals for treatment; rather, they go to church to pray, because death is around the corner.
“We need leaders who are responsible and have integrity. I challenge any of my fellow contestants to come up for assessment, and I can tell you that none of them is better than me. That is why I have been going around the country asking for the support of Nigerians so that we can restore our nation. This is the last chance to unite Nigeria, and I want to unite Nigeria—that is why I am in the race for the presidency”.
Also speaking, Hon. Lilian Oby Orogbu warned that the masses would not tolerate any attempt by desperate politicians to use thugs dressed in security uniforms to manipulate the electoral process.
“We are aware of the plans by some people to manipulate the coming election. We learned that they intend to use thugs dressed in security uniforms to rig the poll, but our people have become wiser, and it will be resisted”, Orogbu stated.
In his remarks, Sen. Victor Umeh carpeted those who, according to him, have been campaigning against voting for Peter Obi, contending that such persons are not in their right senses. “When campaigns officially begin, we shall come down to Anambra State and the South-East to engage the people directly, and let us see why anyone should not support Peter Obi in the coming election”, Umeh said.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Ikem Uzoezie, described the trio of Obi, Umeh, and Orogbu as the most qualified candidates for their respective positions, urging the Anambra electorate to vote massively for them.
The highlight of the event was the distribution of refrigerators, power generators, sewing and grinding machines, motorcycles, buses and cars to constituents of Awka-North and South Federal Constituency.
